Through the years, Sean Bryan (The Papal Ninja) has become an iconic figure on the hit show American Ninja Warrior. His unique strong and contemplative style has set him apart from many of the other athletes and his super powers derive from the believe that "Through Him All Things Are Possible".
The
Challenge:
Create a bold personal brand that breaks through the screen and makes the Papal Ninja a recognizable figure.
The
Solution:
You would probably be wearing the colors of Vatican City if you're going to be the Pope's personal ninja. Thus, by limiting our options to three colors—Gold, White, and Black—we were able to create an impactful color palette. This was a great combination because it also meant that we were going to prevail in making an impact amid a sea of vibrant lights, busy backgrounds, and of course, the fans.
Naturally, the typography and illustration style were inspired by Japanese manga. The italic font and
the athletic ninja illustration created the notion of movement, which bolstered the narrative of the competing ninja. Bold black lines were also essential to ensure that the camera captured the graphics as Sean zoomed through the ANW obstacles and climbed the warped wall.
Being able to watch the show being recorded live was just as much fun as working on the project itself!
